"Calm Before the Sun" by Magnus Sodamin | Art Basel Preview : 27 Nov 2015
November 30, 2015
It was a pleasure to attend the preview for Magnus Sodamin's show "Calm Before the Sun" at the Wynwood Walls in advance of the mayhem that is Art Basel. We were beyond excited to show support for a local Miami-based artist backed by Primary Projects and Jessica Goldman Srebnick. In fact, from our end, Sodamin made us proud in the impression left by his tremendous installation.
The show itself feels like an alternate state of reality. The color scheme splashed about the walls and floor feels frivolous (almost Dionysian) but at the same time, masterfully calculated. The depiction of flowers and blooms feels ephemeral yet the experience of being in the space is long-lasting. Everything is highlighted by black lighting and subtle changes in the intensity of the light in the space.
Again, really nice to see local talent supported in such a way and the ability for an artist like Magnus Sodamin to make Miamians proud with a signature and notable installation like "Calm Before the Sun."
Enjoy Basel, kiddos -- but make sure you check this out!
